San Diego Native U.S. Air Force and Delta Airlines Pilot

Damon Reynolds Waitley died October 4, 2006 at Scripps Memorial Hospital in the company of his family.

Born and raised in San Diego, and a Graduate of Mission Bay High School, Damon received a football scholarship to the University of Hawaii, where he was a record-breaking running back.

During the Vietnam War, Damon served as a U.S. Air Force evacuation pilot, and for the remainder of his professional career, was a commercial airline pilot for both Western and Delta Airlines.

Damon was an avid, life long fisherman and loved the ocean. Damon will also be remembered by his friends and family as one who had a great love of writing and music; he performed as a singer, songwriter and guitarist with passion.

He is survived by his children David Waitley of Alpine, California; Darrah Rogers of Salt Lake City, Utah; Lindsey Kai Waitley of Seattle, Washington; and Dannah, Zane and Kellan Waitley of Kona, Hawaii, also seven grandchildren: Kaila, McKenna, Demi, Bailey, Quinn, Sydney and Madison, as well as his sister, Diane Planz of Mira Mesa, and brother Denis Waitley of La Jolla.

Damon is also survived By nieces and nephews: Deborah, Denis Jr. And Darren Waitley, Dayna Arnold, Pamela Bowen, Dan Planz and Beth Matriano, together with their children, most of who live in San Diego.
