MISSION BAY HIGH SCHOOL
What's Going On?
October, 2007
Well, the nights are getting longer and colder. But the days are true San Diego beautiful. Columbus Day is the anniversary of the October 12, 1492, landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas. However it was on my calendar for October 8. Maybe it got moved to make room for the Mission Bay Alumni Association Kickoff Event on Oct. 12. See information about this on the home page.
We are going to be going into the holiday season, and October itself is full of all kinds of special days leading up to Halloween. We have a whole month of health awareness: AIDS Awareness, Brain Injury, Breast Cancer, Glaucoma, Adult Immunization, and Lupis awareness just to mention a few. October is also Apple month, Caramel Month, Dessert Month, Pasta, Pickled Pepper, Pizza, Pretzel, Seafood, and oh yeah, Vegetarian Month.
My favorite would be Sarcastic Awareness Month!
There should be enough for everyone to find something to celebrate in October. If you want to find some more try http://www.butlerwebs.com/holidays/october.htm
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. San Diego will be the site of the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, a 5 K race from Balboa Park, to be held on November 4, 2007. One of our alumns from the class of 1959, Ann Greenfield, will be participating in this race. To find out more information about this race, and to help support Ann, CLICK HERE
On November 9-11, 2007 there will be a 3 day Breast Cancer Walk from Del Mar to San Diego. My brave, energetic daughter-in-law, Cara plans to come out here from Virginia and walk it. CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE about this race.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Speaking of races, October is the 50th anniversary of the start of the SPACE RACE. On October 5, 1957, Sputnik was launched. It was approximately 23 inches in diameter and 183 pounds. It took 96 min. to orbit the Earth, and it was monitored by amateur radio operators. What a difference a half century makes.
Girls Gone Wild!
October got off to a great start for Orpha Higley (class of 1958) and Barbara Grayson (class of 1959) as they lived it up at the Red Hat Society on October 2.
The monthly breakfast at Coco's is great, but as Orpha and Barbara know, there are other things going on (some almost as much fun). Let us hear from you. Tell us WHAT'S GOING ON in your life. Send pictures. We don't all live in San Diego, so it would be fun to hear from everyone-everywhere: what you have been doing since you were graduated from good ol' MBHS, work, family, hobbies, interests. You can contact me at copala@aol.com especially if you have pictures, or go to the guest book from the home page and enter your comments there. We would all love to hear from you.
